USCB – The University of South Carolina at Beaufort’s North Campus is located in the heart of charming downtown Beaufort, 30 minutes from Colleton River. The new South Campus is at the gateway to Hilton Head Island, 5 minutes from our main entrance.
USCB’s core liberal arts and sciences program is enhanced by the study of Gullah and native cultures, geological, ecological and marine research. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute attracts many Colleton River member participants with its diverse programming.

The Hilton Head Chamber and Colleton River have a strong affiliation and work cooperatively to promote the region as a highly desirable residential and tourism location.

Old Town Bluffton. If you visit the website of Old Town Bluffton, just a few miles from the entrance to Colleton River, you’ll learn that Bluffton was originally a dwelling place for the Yemassee Native Americans and that early landowners enjoyed the high bluffs and cool May River breezes as a summer respite from the heat and isolation of the plantations. Incorporated in 1852, it was the first official town in southern Beaufort County. Today, you can stroll the shady streets, wander through an array of antique shops, art galleries and studios, or linger at one of the charming cafes for a sandwich or the catch of the day.

Hilton Head Island. Hilton Head is one of the best known and most popular islands in the country. It features 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean and has become the vacation destination for over 2 million visitors a year.
In addition to its outstanding beaches and many fine restaurants, Hilton Head offers Broadway-quality plays at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, the Hilton Head Choral Society, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, the largest annual outdoor wine tasting event on the east coast, and a number of other annual community festivals. It also hosts the Verizon Heritage, a PGA golf tournament, at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Beaufort - Less than an hour’s drive from Colleton River is the historic city of Beaufort, one of South Carolina’s fastest growing communities. Downtown Beaufort has been designated a historic district by National Trust for Historic Preservation and has over 100 homes, forts, churches, cemeteries and inns listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.
Despite its size, the city has the feel of a small town, offering pristine waterways, unique vegetation, and a host of activities including golf, tennis, fishing, boating, crabbing, shrimping, biking and more. It is also home to the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, the Naval Hospital and the Marine Corps Air Station.

Savannah and Charleston – Colleton River is only 30 miles north of Savannah, Georgia and 90 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, two of the most historic and romantic cities in the South. As such, Colleton River members have convenient access to the cobblestone streets of the port city of Savannah and its quaint shops, restaurants and festivals. Or, they can head north to Charleston to tour the historic city, visit the outdoor market, purchase sweet grass baskets, shop for fine antiques or dine at one of Charleston’s finest restaurants.
