The Academy Staff
At Colleton River Golf Academy, the teaching philosophy is to help you "Manage Your Golf Game." With a belief that practice makes permanent, not perfect, the goal is to empower you to have more control over your golf game.
Led by Director of Instruction David La Pour, our staff of seven at Colleton River Golf Academy is uniquely trained Academy and PGA Class A Golf Professionals, who are also certified through the CRGA Teaching Manual. This 42-point certification includes Platinum Customer Service; TPI Golf Fitness Instructors; TrackMan Certified Operators; Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade and Ping club fitters; V-1 & JC-Video analysis; and the foundation of the Academy: the Seven Building Blocks.
David La Pour – Golf Digest Recognized Instructor 2005-2008
After playing college golf in North Carolina and Florida, in 1988 David became an assistant professional studying under Peter Kostis at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton. After gaining membership into the PGA of America in 1991 and spending eight years as a club professional, David started working as a Lead Instructor for the Dave Pelz Short Game School at the Boca Raton Hotel Resort & Club (1996). During his tenure with Dave Pelz, David appeared on The Golf Channel six times, as well as ESPN, and has worked with tour players such as Bill Glasson, K.J. Choi, Ty Tryon, John Harris, Miguel Angel Martin, David Lundstrom, Mike Sullivan, Tom Shaw, Wayne Mc Donald, and Melissa McNamara.
In 2003 David left Dave Pelz and became the Director of Instruction for WP Golf Operation's five golf facilities, creating the WP Golf Institute (2003-2008). In 2008 David accepted the position of Director of Instruction for Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, South Carolina, where he developed and now oversees the Colleton River Golf Academy. Nominated for national PGA of America teacher of the year (2001), David was recognized as one of "America's Top Golf Instructors" 2002-2003 by CRCA and was named as one of the Top Teaching Professionals in Minnesota from 2005 to 2008 by Golf Digest Magazine. Recently he has been nominated for teacher of the year in the Carolina PGA and the Hilton Head Chapter (2010-2011). David competes in local and state tournaments throughout the year.
