About Us

Colleton River Plantation Club was originally established in 1990 by the Colleton River Development Company, the same principals who own and operate such esteemed properties as The Sanctuary at Kiawah, The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville and the Inn at Harbour Town in Hilton Head.

Vision

In establishing Colleton River, the developers had one vision: to be one of the finest residential club communities in the country. This vision was recognized in 2009 with Colleton River Plantation Club being awarded the Platinum Club Award in recognition as one of the Top 15 Private Residential Communities in the United States. This award is given out every three years based on the survey results of over 6,000 private clubs belonging to the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA). It ranks clubs based on quality of membership, tradition and culture, amenities, governance, and quality of management and staff. Voting requirements to distinguish America's most highly admired private clubs include: a history of excellence, quality of membership, condition of facilities, caliber of professional staff, enlightened and consistent governance, adaptable to changing times, member devotion to the club's distinctive culture, spirit of generosity in the community, prudent fiscal management and universal acknowledgement of greatness.

Mission

The mission of the Colleton River Plantation Club is to attract and retain members who are committed to our vision by providing exceptional services, superior facilities and a friendly atmosphere; attract and retain an outstanding staff by providing competitive benefits and pay, recognizing excellent performance, and creating a learning and caring environment; and support our community by encouraging participation in charitable, civic and cultural activities.

Guiding Principles

Colleton River Plantation Club is best defined by the quality of its membership and staff. Our overriding objective is to attract and retain a membership representing a broad range of life and professional experiences. Our members and staff are dedicated to fostering a positive, welcoming atmosphere and to improving amenities and operations consistent with our vision. The following principles will guide membership and staff as enthusiastic ambassadors for Colleton River:

  • Colleton River will be managed by a General Manager operating under the strategic guidance of the Board of Directors with a system and process that remains consistent from year to year.
  • Committees will be utilized as a resource for the General Manager and the Board to advocate programs and to reflect all members' viewpoints and priorities.
  • We shall have one class of membership. Every member will own property to ensure all have a significant and equal commitment to Colleton River. All members will be treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  • We shall maintain high standards for our members' custom homes, the clubs facilities, roads, and landscaping to ensure the natural beauty and low density of Colleton's environment is protected and enhanced.
  • Recognizing that golf is the most important activity for the majority of our members, we will place a high priority on maintaining and improving the golf experience.
  • While providing the finest golf experience and facilities is a major focus, we will work to satisfy the diverse interests and full lifestyles of our membership, and we will strive for excellence in all we decide to do.
  • We will create a work environment that will allow us to employ, develop, and retain the highest quality professional staff. The quality and commitment of the staff will be reflected in their thoroughly professional team approach and will provide members with the best possible experience.
  • The Colleton River membership and staff will strive to be active participants in the life of Bluffton and the Lowcountry through volunteerism and charities.
  • We will operate in a fiscally prudent manner in managing membership funds to fulfill the Colleton River vision.
  • The membership will establish and celebrate traditions that will meaningfully and favorably distinguish Colleton River for years to come.
